Yellow Fellows Race Report 9: Brooks Run Happy 2013

Date:  16 November 2013

Place:  Marina Barrage

Race:  Brooks Run Happy 2013

The Yellow Fellows take to the races once again for our 2nd last race of the season.  This time, it’s the Brooks Run Happy 2013.  This year’s route would take us around the Marina Barrage and MBS area.

It’s a 9km route ending at the top of the Marina Barrage.  The mere thought of finishing the race with the slope that brings us all the way to the top is enough to make a grown man shiver and shake but 5 members of the Yellow Fellows took on the challenge.  Mainly, Sijie, Khim, Hermann, Joel and myself.

This year’s race was also in conjunction with Movember.  To raise funds and awareness for men’s health, prostrate cancer and testicular cancer.  You may want to find out more about this movement here. or you could visit their Facebook page here.

By the time we got to Marina Barrage, the music was pumping and there were loads of runners already raring to go.  There really was a party vibe around the whole place but there was still the 9km to run.  After the usual formalities where the Yellow Fellows were also invited to come on stage to say a few words, we were off and running.

The route just after Marina Barrage was a tad dark but that made it more interesting for the very special “Glow Zone” where they set up UV lights and made all the runners “glow in the dark”.

After that whole stretch of quiet, the second stretch proved to be totally different.  The hustle and bustle of Satay by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands on a Saturday night was totally different.

After we crossed the finish line, we were all greeted by the lovely volunteers with our medals and drinks.  There was also really yummy food, complimentary face washes and pumping music.  The highlight of the evening had to be the lucky draw where one lucky runner was going to win a trip to the Gold Coast.

Well, all too soon, the night came to and end, and we all hustled back to rest up because we had to come back  here for our last run of the season.  So, to end this post, I’ll leave you with a couple of important links in case you would like to visit some of our sponsors or if you would like to make a donation because you still have just about 36 days to make it.
