The Yellow Fellows Race Report 4 – Pocari Sweat Run 2013

Date:  16 June 2013

Place:  The Promontory @ Marina Bay

Race:  Pocari Sweat Run 2013

About 3 weeks after our last race, the Yellow Fellows take to the streets once again.  This time, minus 2 members because of work and travel commitments.  Nevertheless, we were still well represented by Jie, Joel, Wilfred and myself.

At race start

We did however have friends, old and new, to join us on the run.  Decked in Yellow in show of support of the Yellow Fellows.  Thank you Gis, Phoebe & Bryan!

Support from friends, old and new

It was nice cool morning for a run and thankfully, the haze had not fully come into full effect yet and all of us, had a relatively comfortable run.

This year’s route was slightly different from last year’s run and sort of an anniversary of sorts because last year, was the first time, we all ran together decked out in yellow.  (Just a little bit of trivia for you).  Now, back to the route, most of it was the same as last year’s race, that took us through Gardens by the Bay and Marina Barrage.  Nice scenic route with a killer portion that took us up and down Marina Barrage… TWICE….. once on the way up and once on the way back.  Other than that, I felt that the route was fairly flat all the way.

As we were at the starting pen, somehow, I knew that deep down, we were all wanting to better our timings clock for the NS Real Run.  The course and terrain added a huge chunk to our PB’s and we really wanted to set things straight for this race.  For me anyway…..

We were all relaxed before the start and that’s always a good sign.  Before we knew it, we were off and running….  Jie and Joel took off as usual, I settled quickly into my comfortable race pace and had Wilfred with me for at least the first 2 k’s of the race.

One thing that stuck out for me during the run,  was the mysterious caucasian girl who strategically positioned herself on the upslope of the Marina Barrage and was constantly shouting out encouragement and warnings of uneven ground to all the runners.  Whoever you are girl… You Rock!  I bet you put a smile of every single runner’s face.

Overall, it was a great run, well organised with a great atmosphere, made even better when running with friends.

We all managed to lower our timings, for me, not as much as I would have liked but I finished the race strong and the knee held up, so I am happy.

We finish strong

So just an update, the Yellow Fellows will be at Bedok Reservoir for the Oakley Tri Factor Series 2013 Induction session on the 22nd June 2013, from 3.30pm to 7pm, together with Oakley Athlete Mok Ying Ren.  If you have already received your participation email, we’ll be seeing you there… make sure you come and say hi!

There is also something in the pipeline for the Yellow Fellows as we gear up for the 2nd half of this year.  More and more support in terms of Likes on our facebook page and donations to our supported charity, the Singapore Cancer Society at our donation page .  Do like our page to keep updated on our races and the recent happenings with the Yellow Fellows.

Till our next race, keep well, stay healthy, run hard!

Oh! And thank you to Chasing Shots for this photo montage and shout out! We love the pic!  Make sure you go check them out at their facebook page here!
